H.B. Fuller Internship

This past summer I worked as an operations engineer at H.B. Fuller, where I helped to improve processes by designing, building, and maintaining a machinery maintenance database capable of delivering fully automated machinery status updates and weekly maintenance reports.

Overall Equipment Effectiveness

Many of my projects at H.B. Fuller were related to Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). OEE is a metric used to show the real time a machine spends making good product at top speed withought stopping. My main project was a maintenance database. This database helped to increase communication of OEE through out the plant through automated emails, increasing the effectiveness of decisions involving maintenance and machinery down time.

Safety

This summer I had the priveleage to get hands on with the design, implimentation, and testing of PLC programming on large scale machines ecosystems. Modifying valve timing and HMI interface's to better help the operator run the machine in a safe manor, and help decrease wear and tear on the machines was a major focus.

The Design Process

01

Identify a Problem

Get an idea on physical paper with hand drawings. It is important to get an idea out of your head and on paper, it is this step can often make or break an idea.

02

Use your Resources

Stakeholder Management is the continuous process of identifying, analyzing, and engaging with individuals or groups who can affect or be affected by a project or organization. In operations engineering, the best resource we have are the operators who work with the machines every day.

03

Iterative Design

Utilizing input from Stakeholders, iteritive design takes place to continually improve upon the final product.
